DescriptionBy combining sound and force with weight, the Bassnectar experience engulfs the senses. It is as physical as it is auditory; the adventure has no rules, no limitations, and no hesitation in fusing the familiar with the strange or the classic with the cutting edge.
Bassnectar is the brainchild of Lorin Ashton, and it exists as an open-sourced musical project that is as diverse as it is heavy, as raw as it is meticulous, and as fierce as it is imaginary. Spanning the spectrum of sonic style, the music covers every genre imaginable and smashes it all into a synthesis of intense, wobbling basslines and hypnotic soundscapes.

Hardcore dubstep and breakbeat fans probably already know the name of Bassnectar, as he's been blazing a trail in electronica since the 90s. As a pioneer of the electronic sub-genres, Bassnectar has built a huge following with what he calls "omni-tempo maximalism," which he displays on notorious tour dates. He stands apart from most dubstep artists by employing layers of varying speeds into his music, giving it a sometimes ethereal and sometimes hip hop feel. Bassnectar is keeping busy this year, with a new EP, Divergent Spectrum, set to release soon and a slew of summer tour dates in 2011.
Bassnectar (aka Lorin Ashton) grew up in San Jose a fan of heavy metal music. He began playing drums at the age of twelve and became a huge fan of the underground metal scene. When he was eighteen, Ashton attended a dance party and instantly became attracted to electronic music. He began promoting for dance music and soon came to run his own record store where he threw large dance parties. In 1996, Ashton headed to college in Santa Cruz and received a minor in Electronic Music. Shortly after, Ashton began producing records for DJs and creating original beats on the side.
In 2000, Ashton met Perry Farrell (of Jane's Addiction), who asked Ashton about remixing a song by Michael Franti & Spearhead. Ashton remixed "Rock the Nation" on the single album in 2001 and it became his stepping stone into the world of mainstream music. That same year, Bassnectar released his debut album, Freakbeat for the Beatfreaks, which became well known for its simple, numeric track titles. The album was released on Ashton's own Amorphous Music label, as were his next three albums. Beginning after the release of his sixth album, Underground Communication, in 2007, Bassnectar began releasing EPs to please fans in between his full album releases and tour dates. His mainstream success reached an all-time high after the release of Cozza Frenzy in 2009, which took two years to compile and record. Bassnectar is putting the finishing touches on his latest EP, Divergent Spectrum, which will be released on August 2 amid massive tour dates in 2011.
Fans excited for the EP's release can catch Bassnectar on his ever-rigorous tour dates in 2011 at a number of music festivals. Bassnectar will perform tour dates around the east coast of the US until July 7, when the artist will head to play at festivals in Europe including the Dour Festival in Belgium. Bassnectar will return to North America on July 29 to perform tour dates in Canada and the eastern US until September 4, including a tour date at Bass Island on August 13. On September 7, Bassnectar begins 2011 tour dates for his Divergent Spectrum Tour, which consists of a handful of concert dates on the west coast. Bassnectar's tour dates in 2011 will culminate with a tour date at Bass Center III in San Francisco on September 17. Check Eventful regularly for all of Bassnectar's tour date action in 2011.

ICAL (short for iCalendar) is a standard calendar format that allows you to transfer events from one calendar to another via an .ics file format. An .ics file can have a single event or a list of events. You can download the .ics file and import it into your calendar for a snapshot of the data or you can subscribe and let your calendar program update the event data in your calendar automatically.
CSV
CSV (short for "comma-separated values") is a simple data format that many programs, such as Microsoft Excel, use for importing and exporting data.
You can import a list of events into Microsoft Outlook, Yahoo! Calendar, and other tools by using this CSV file.
RSS
RSS is a regularly updated summary of events that can be viewed through an RSS reader, along with links to full versions of events. When you subscribe to an RSS feed of events, you'll receive a summary of new events through your RSS reader. When you click on an RSS button, your browser may display a page of web code; if this happens, review your reader's documentation on how to subscribe to an RSS feed.
RSS readers are as numerous as the stars on a clear night during a concert at the park. To find a reader, try Google or ask your friends what they use.
