Do you know why there is a tradition to have the dragon boat race and eat dumplings during the day? An honorable minister 屈原 in ancient times was banished by a repressive emperor, so he drowned himself in the river. Local people who admired him raced out in their boats to try to retrieve his body. People also dropped sticky rice dumplings into the river so that the fish would eat them instead of the minister's body.
