FEMA Region 10 Youth Preparedness Camp
Building off of the youth engagement concept, we will host a Youth Preparedness Camp in late August 2019. This six-day, five-night camp will take place in Stanwood, WA and will be hosted and staffed by the camp staff and FEMA personnel. There will be a competitive application process, through which forty (40) high school aged youth, from Region 10 states and tribes, will be selected to attend. The purpose of this camp is to encourage leadership and empowerment opportunities, team building, traditional camp activities, and to hone life-saving skills. Staff will utilize existing programs to teach students how to safely assist in the immediate aftermath of a disaster when the professional response may be delayed or limited. Local emergency responders will be supporting the curriculum delivery to introduce participants to various emergency response professions. As part of the camp program, youth participants will identify and develop a concept for a give-back project where they will utilize their skills to improve preparedness in their communities.
