TRACKING THE CRIME SCENE Featuring K-9 handler ROBERT CALKINS and his tracking dog, K-9 RUGER, and King County Sheriff Detective KATHY DECKER, renowned tracking expert. Finding a dead body or locating a missing person may require the use of specially-trained dogs and their handlers. Tracking the Crime Scene is lecture/practicum that provides writers an opportunity to experience this in a simulated crime scene. Learn from the experts in a lecture inside and then watch the dog and trackers at work outside. A unique opportunity to see search and rescue in action! A boxed lunch will be provided. Robert D. Calkins has over 15 years’ experience in Search and Rescue dog handling. He and his dogs have responded to everything from routine lost hikers, to homicides, to the horrific Oso mudslide that claimed more than 40 lives. He’s an author of six YA books with his most recent being Payout – The Scent of Money. Kathleen Decker is a Detective with the King County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit and the County’s Search and Rescue Coordinator. An internationally recognized expert, she’s been involved in numerous cases and trains law enforcement on the identification and processing of outdoor crime scenes.
