Strait Art: Book Reading & Presentation
Join us as we launch the first book reading of the long-awaited collection of essays compiled by Jake Seniuk (1949-2016), director-curator of Port Angeles Fine Arts Center (PAFAC) from 1989-2012. In forty-six essays, at nearly 300 pages, with more than 300 illustrations, Strait Art collects Jake's texts written for exhibitions he curated of well-known and little-known Northwest artists, including William Morris, Anne Hirondelle, George and Gerry Tsutakawa, Alfredo Arreguín & Susan R. Lytle, Marilyn Lysohir, Trimpin, Mary Peck, Lanny Bergner, Ann Morris, Dale Chihuly, and Dennis Evans & Nancy Mee. The Museum of Northwest Art was the fiscal agent for this project, and we are thrilled to start the book tour here. Donna James and Kathleen Moles (editors of the book) will read from Strait Art and show images of the art in the book, and readings at each subsequent venue of the book tour throughout the spring (in Seattle, Port Townsend, Port Angeles, and Bainbridge Island) will center on artists local to that site to keep each event unique. Artists will also be invited to read from the book at the event. At MoNA, readings will include essays that feature the work of Philip McCracken, Allen Moe, Sheila Klein & Ries Niemi, James Lapp, and C.C. Elian.
