Truth, Trust, and Democracy: Distinguishing Fact from Fiction in the Digital Age

Saturday, April 27, 2019, 8:00 PM - 10:00 PM

Ours is the information age. We are bombarded with information every day. It’s on our phones, plastered on our social media pages, and blaring over television sets. From our interactions with media to reading local and national newspapers, we need a better understanding of how to sort out the bona fide truth from the subtly skewed and the overtly false. David Nelson, editor of the Kitsap Sun, will be our moderator for this important topic. Our speakers are Jon Talton, economics columnist for The Seattle Times; Jevin West, assistant professor, University of Washington Information School; and Tom Wilson, researcher, UW Department of Human Centered Design & Engineering.
