Unforgiving Waters: Shipwrecks of the Pacific Northwest

Sunday, March 1, 2020, 6:00 PM - 1:00 AM

The Pacific Northwest is a place of rocky beaches and shifting sands, of high winds and raging seas. Its geography is beautiful, but dangerous. Waterways have served as the lifeline for people of coastal regions, a center of commerce, but also a place of tragedy. Over two thousand shipwrecks rest at the bottom of Northwest waters. Many of the objects in this exhibition were plucked from the remains of ships. For many shipwrecks, mystery endures about what happened to a ship or why it went down, but we can still learn much from the objects and stories that have been recovered. Travel by sea is no longer as common but our fascination with treasure and tragedy remains. Visitors will also learn about songs of the sea, nautical knots and more.

Cost: $11-$14; free for children 5 and under
